WKC WORLD CHAMPION 2011 & 2012

I started training in Kickboxing at the age of 13 and at this time in my life I was best described as a shy, withdrawn girl reluctant to speak to anyone at the club.  I could never have imagined I would go on to achieve as much as I have in the sport.  In fact it was my shyness and lack of confidence that actually led to my involvement in kickboxing with my father taking me along to our local BCKA Kickboxing club in 1999. Since then I have never looked back.

I loved my kickboxing training from the beginning and as each year went by and with every grade I passed I only became more passionate and driven to succeed in the sport.  In 2004 I began to get more involved in competitive fighting and it wasn't long until I was part of the BCKA England Squad making my competitive debut in the Irish Open (Europe's largest martial arts tournament) as a points fighter.  Since 2004 I have represented BCKA England Squad at the Irish Open every year.

In 2007 I achieved my black belt and also began to enter light contact competitions.  Within two years I made the decision to concentrate firstly on light contact fighting as opposed to points fighting.  Shortly from here I attended my first World Championships in 2009 representing WKC Team England and achieving a bronze medal.

2010 was a year in which I suffered with many injuries but managed to have my most successful year (to that date) winning a bronze medal in the Irish Open and a silver medal in the World Championships.  However with the world title still having eluded me I was not satisfied with these achievements and set about improving my training regime from my diet to my injury rehabilitation, improving weaknesses in my body. I worked hard at physio exercises and it paid off when I won the world title at the end of 2011.

Things didn’t go according to plan in 2012 – the year started off great winning the WKC English National Championships and another bronze medal in the Irish Open.  However a series of injuries, most notably a hamstring tear, put me out of action for 3 months.  Returning to training in August I had 6 weeks training before I was due to defend my world title in Canada.  Two weeks prior to this competition I had to stop training after I strained one of my hip flexors.  Nevertheless I still fought in Canada and successfully retained my world title.

So far 2013 has seen me carry on my success on the mats.  I have won two British titles, a bronze in the Irish Open and also was proud to represent Chinese Kickboxing Select in Clash of the Titans, winning my fight on the night.  I am also set to fight for my third world title in Italy later on in the year.
